So, why should having tattoos done be seen as being rebellious? The simple answer is that there are still far too many people in our society that are immensely stuck-up and narrow minded.
Rebellious and ink have been connected together for many decades now. There will always be a contingency of people who choose to have tattoos done just so that they can rebel against the accepted norms of society. But why on earth should other people feel so offended by people who choose to adorn their bodies with tattoos?
Perhaps the main reason is that these people view the art of tattooing as being mutilation of one's body; it may also be due to extreme religious views which will often condemn this practice.
At the end of the day, when faced with so many people who view body art as totally anathema to themselves, it is the very bravest of individuals who choose to go ahead and have that work done! Especially when they elect to cover large parts of their bodies: for example with work permanently on show through complete sleeves and ink on the neck.
Thankfully, as the less accepting older generations start to die out, our world is slowly becoming more tolerant towards people who choose to express themselves through such means. Perhaps, in about twenty years or so, tattooing may not be viewed as being anything like as rebellious as it is at the moment. In the meantime respect goes out to those who prefer to rebel against our up-tight and intolerant society.
